Get lit like Bic on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 10pm listening to Melbourne Trap Pack Radio presented by Strofik and guest DJ’s of Melbourne Trap Pack.
With a classical music theory background and armed with a Maschine at the ready, Strofik is not your typical club DJ. With not a CDJ or USB in sight, Strofik exclusively finger drums his sets live, swiftly working his hands across the Maschines, all on the fly. Influenced by highly skilled American finger drumming pioneers araabMUZIK and Jeremy Ellis, Strofik has introduced their visually entertaining and energetic finger drumming sets to Australian clubs – the only one doing sets in this way.
Whilst an early introduction to classical music on the cello and piano paved the way for musical appreciation, it was a timely trip as a 10 y/o to a relative living in Harlem, NYC, that spawned an interest for all elements of hip-hop culture (MCing, breaking, graffiti writing, DJing). Fast forward to the clubbing culture habits of first year university students, he envisaged offering something ‘different’ to the clubs. Between text books, essays and assignments, some serious finger drumming commenced, with Strofik emerging in 2014. Homing in on bass heavy music, specifically Trap in both hip-hop and EDM forms, this Maestro of the Maschine is one to watch, having supported the likes of Nina Las Vegas, Hudson Mohawke and Ekali here in Melbourne.
In sharp contrast to his weekly orchestra rehearsals, Strofik switches it up on the 4th Wednesday of each month as presenter of Melbourne Trap Pack Radio to entertain, enlighten and inspire, whilst hosting local Trap DJ’s from the Melbourne Trap Pack Facebook group, quenching the thirst of all trapaholics.
